Patna: A group of suspected Naxalites attacked a government primary school and shot dead two members of a family residing on the school premises in Jamui district, around 165km southeast of Patna, in the small hours of Saturday.
The incident occurred around 2am when the residents were asleep. Around 100 extremists armed with arms and ammunition surrounded the school at Pacheshwari village under the jurisdiction of Barhat police station and fired at Madan Koda and Pramod Kora, said to be brothers.
Both the victims died on the spot. However, the deceased's younger brother Ranjeet Koda survived the attack as he had gone to relieve himself in a field. On seeing the extremists, he fled the spot and informed the police about the incident.
An hour later, a police team from Barhat reached the spot and inquired about the incident. A senior police officer said around 50 families were shifted to the Pacheshwari government school after they apprehended attack by the Naxalites at Kumartari.
Earlier, three persons, including a woman Meena Devi and her son Bajrangi Koda, were killed by the extremists on the suspicion of being involved in leaking information to the police about the activities of the banned outfit. The third victim was identified as Shiv Koda.
The deceased's families had taken shelter at the Pacheshwari school on the directive of the local police and civil administrative officials.
