Patna: Gandhi Maidan will host three big events in the coming two weeks posing a challenge for the district administration.

A kite festival and cultural programme will be held on January 14, a human chain in support of campaign against child marriage and dowry system and Republic Day function on January 26 are lined up at Gandhi Maidan.

To get a clear idea of the ground realities, Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi, Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj and Patna traffic superintendent of police P.K. Das on Wednesday inspected the ground.

Keeping a large gathering in mind, Kishor issued an order to open a temporary police outpost near the ground's gate number 5. He asked city superintendent of police (Central), D. Amarkesh, to send the proposal to Patna SSP on Wednesday itself.

The infrastructure of the outpost would be looked after by the commissioner's office. He also discovered that people might not get clean drinking water. He then instructed the engineer of public health and engineering department to install four water ATMs inside the ground in four directions.

Kishor asked executive engineer of building construction department Tarani Das to do proper barricading on the ground for the kite festival, which will be organised from 11am to 2 pm. "The area where professional kite flyers will fly kites must be barricaded so that are not disturbed by residents. There should be a separate place marked for residents where they can fly their own kites," Kishor said. Parking facility would be made near gate number 7 and 10.

Officials of the district administration will enter from gate number 1 and media outside broadcast van will enter from gate number 12.

For the human chain event, except morning walks all other activities would be restricted from January 16 to 26.
