Patna, June 13: The sale and submission of admission forms at various colleges under Patna University have picked up speed a day after the announcement of Intermediate of Arts results.
On Monday, students and many of their guardians thronged various colleges to collect the admission forms, while those who had taken the forms already joined the queue to submit them.
The last date of submission of forms in most colleges is June 22. This year, the announcement of CBSE Class XII (Patna region) and Intermediate results were delayed and students were left with little time to complete formalities for taking admission in colleges. The Class XII results of CBSE students from Patna region was declared on May 27, while the same had been announced in other zones much before. Similarly, this year, results for Intermediate of Arts were declared on Sunday while Intermediate science and commerce results were declared just a week ago.
Ajay Sinha, who passed out of Leeds Asian Public School, said: “This year, the Class XII result was delayed as Patna region decided to go for publication of its own results. The delay was because of late evaluation of answer sheets.”
Even though Ajay secured a first division in the CBSE Class XII examination, many of his friends failed in one or two subjects. Even the Intermediate results were delayed by more than 15 days.
According to the calendar of Intermediate Council, the results had to be published by May-end but this time, the results were declared over two weeks behind schedule.
The late declaration of results not only forces students to rush with the admission formalities but also leaves them with little time to collect their marksheets and caste certificates, if necessary, from the offices. The Class XII marksheets are provided by Intermediate Council or CBSE office while the caste certificate can be provided by sub-divisional officer’s office.
A senior teacher of Patna University told The Telegraph: “If the (Patna) university does not extend the date for taking admissions, many students will be unable to secure admissions. As a result, many colleges would be left with vacant seats.”
The teacher pointed out that even last year, students faced a similar problem and even institutions like BN College and Patna College failed to take full admission in several subjects. In BN College seats were vacant in even Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor in Science (BSc) courses.
M.N. Sinha, a teacher in the Geology department at BN College, said: “Apart from vacant seats in BA and BSc, seats were also vacant in Geo-hydrology and the college had no option but to run the course from half the total number of students.”
Moreover, according to the academic calendar released by the Patna University, the last date for submission of forms in all its colleges is June 22, except for Patna College, where the last date in June 25. The university’s administration through its academic calendar has also stated that classes in all undergraduate courses would start on July 15.
