Patna, Sept. 23: The Association of Surgeons of India (Bihar chapter) will hold a three-day medical conference starting September 24.
The medical conference has been divided into two sessions, a workshop with live demonstration of operations conducted by eminent surgeons of the city at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, followed by a two-day scientific session at Hotel Maurya. The ASI Bihar chapter on this occasion organised a press conference on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, joint secretary of ASI (Bihar chapter) Dr Manish Mandal said: “On the first day of the conference, live demonstrations of major operations would be held at IGIMS.”
The workshop would not only let people watch the operations being performed by surgeons but can also pose questions on various aspects. A panel of doctors comprising eminent surgeons from the city would give answers to audience queries.
Mandal also said that major operations, including hypospadias, stone and cancer (breast cancer, colon cancer, etc), would be performed free of cost.
Moreover, the ASI will bear the medical expenses, including the cost of medicines spent on patients who will undergo operations. More than 300 persons have registered for undergoing free surgeries.
The next two days of the medical conference have been divided for holding scientific sessions. In the scientific sessions, eminent surgeons would submit more than 50 papers. Apart from medical science, the session will also throw lights on human rights of doctors and patients.
The session of human rights of doctors and patients assumes importance as recently the Bihar Human Rights Commission had to intervene in ending to the strike called by the medicos of Patna Medical College and Hospital. Rotary Patna secretary Ritu Ranjan will address the human rights session that will highlight various aspects of human rights concerning child and women.
In the last day of the medical conference, speakers will throw light on medico legal aspects. Dr M.S. Bhatt, an eminent doctor and advocate from Ranchi, will present case-based study through which ways to protect the legal rights of doctors will be demonstrated.
Eminent surgeons from across the country, including Dr Thomas Vergese, (Kerala), Dr Ananat Kumar (New Delhi), Dr S.T. Maurya (Agra, UP), Dr Pravin Bhatia (New Delhi) will participate in the medical conference.
