The Left parties CPI, CPM and CPI(ML) on Sunday pledged to oppose the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi together and resolved to organise a joint rally at Gandhi Maidan in 2015, the date of which would be decided later.

The occasion for the show of unity was the people’s court at R-Bock, in which CPI(ML) unveiled a report card based on the survey of 2 lakh families in Bihar and their living condition. The three Left parties criticised the state government as well as the Centre for the alleged anti-poor and anti-people policies.

Addressing the gathering of 2,000 and odd people, CPI(ML) national general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said: “We have to start a big revolution. And for that, today (on Sunday) we announce to hold a joint Left rally at Gandhi Maidan in 2015.”

Slamming the Modi government for inducting Giriraj Singh in the cabinet, Bhattacharya said: “There was talk of minimum government and maximum governance. But look at the expansion of Modi’s government and the kind of people being inducted into it. Giriraj was the man who called Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Mukhiya as Mahatma Gandhi, more than Rs 1 crore was found from his flat. What kind of government is being run by the BJP?”

He appreciated that a person from Musahar community had taken the state’s top post but denounced his failure to do any work for the poor.

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat hit out at the Centre for slashing funds to the states under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Act. He expressed concern over the increase in atrocities against Dalits, Mahadalits and women in Bihar.

CPI national secretary Atul Anjan said Modi’s government was totally run by the corporate world.
