Patna, April 28: A whopping Rs 32 lakh and undisclosed investment papers were seized during income tax (I-T) raids on the houses and offices of a builder and a state JD (U) leader on Thursday.

Builder Sashi Bhushan Sinha is the proprietor of Tirupati Homes Private Limited in Patna, while politician Rajiv Ranjan Singh is the director of M/s India Private Limited, the subsidiary company of Tirupati Homes.

The documents seized during the raids included sale deeds and property papers.

A source in the I-T department said: “The raids were conducted after I-T sleuths received reports that the builder had confiscated huge property and cash without declaring accurate information of his income.”

Apart from Rs 32 lakh and investment documents, the I-T sleuths also sealed two bank lockers in name of Sinha.

I-T sleuths carried raids at 10 places in Patna between SK Nagar and Punaichak area.

Unaccounted cash was also recovered during the raid at the house of Rajiv Ranjan Singh at Veena Shree apartment in Punaichak area.

The I-T sleuths, however, refused to disclose the exact amount of cash seized.

I-T sources said that the seized money and documents are just a tip of the iceberg. The raids, which started around 6am, continued till late evening.

Meanwhile, Singh has termed the I-T raids an attempt by his opponents to defame his reputation.
