Muzaffarpur, April 5: A first round of protests by a few law students against the scheduled examination centre has pushed the fate of many would-be lawyers into uncertainty and darkness.

The future of nearly 5,300 students of different law colleges affiliated under the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University is hanging in the balance.

The university, on the other hand, is in no hurry to conduct the final examination that was once boycotted by a few law examinees in September 2010. The students boycotted the examination to protest the university’s decision not to change the examination centre from the university hall to anywhere else.

The university had announced the schedule and also made arrangements to conduct the final examination of 2009-2010 session of Sri Krishna Jubilee Law College, Muzaffarpur, RaghunathPandey Law College, Muzaffarpur and Munshi Singh Law College, Motihari.

However, at the eleventh hour, a handful of examinees created ruckus over the centre of examination. A group of examinees were demanding that the examination centre be changed immediately to any other college under the university. The university smelt rat behind the demand of an alternate centre and declined to change the venue.

On April 2 and April 3, students again created ruckus outside the office of the acting vice-chancellor Rajendra Prasad Mishra and pro-vice-chancellor Padmasha Jha, demanding the authorities to conduct the examination afresh immediately.

The university later referred the matter to the governor for consent.

The office of the governor directed the VC to complete the formalities on its own. The university has initiated a process to re-conduct the examination. The academic council has reluctantly agreed to organise the law examination afresh. Now, the proposal would besent to the syndicate and the senate to seek consent before announcing a new schedule.

On the other hand, a group of students met the VC and the pro-VC and threatened another round of agitation if the university fails to conduct the examination immediately.
