Patna: He may be in jail, but Lalu Prasad is still the taskmaster in his party.
RJD MLAs and MLCs were on Thursday told to reach out to every person in the state with the message of saving the rights of the downtrodden. The instruction was given by Lalu - through a letter.
This is Lalu's second letter to his party since he was jailed afresh. In the first letter, Lalu had made an emotional appeal to his supporters, party workers, leader and voters to keep the party united. This time, the letter was solely for the lawmakers of the RJD, in which he stressed on fighting for the underprivileged.
Lalu wrote that the country is passing through an "unofficial Emergency" more dangerous than the real Emergency as there is a "conspiracy" to change the Constitution. Veteran RJD leader Jagdanand Sigh read out the letter in the presence of Lalu's sons Tej Pratap and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, and Rabri Devi.
The letter was brought by Lalu's confidante and MLA Bhola Yadav, and a copy of the missive was distributed during the legislature party meeting held at Tejashwi's 5 Deshratna Marg bungalow.
In the letter, Lalu told all MLAs and MLCs to visit hamlets of the Dalits and weaker sections to in their constituencies to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14.
"The Centre is all out to finish the law made to protect the weaker sections of the society and there is propaganda being created against the Dalits and minorities," Lalu wrote. "The most affected are the minorities who are being targeted and suppressed. The Centre wants to win the election by polarising the society and wants to implement divide and rule policy for vote bank. It's our duty to stop them."
