A sub-inspector of police will interrogate an IPS officer accused of sexually exploiting a woman police officer earlier posted in Kaimur district.

Almost a week after a complaint was lodged against 2009-batch IPS officer Pushkar Anand, sub-inspector Anamika Yadav was appointed as investigating officer in the case. Earlier, Kaimur deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Rajan Sinha was assigned to probe the case.

Sources said the former investigating officer, Sinha, was replaced with Anamika on the orders of deputy inspector-general (Shahabad range) Umashankar Sudhanshsu. Anamika was earlier posted in Buxar.

On Sunday night, the new investigating officer recorded the statement of the complainant, Nirmala Kumari, earlier posted as sub-divisional police officer of Bhabua in Kaimur district. Pushkar was then the Kaimur SP.

Anamika, who took over as the station house officer (SHO) of Kaimur Women's police station on Sunday, said the probe in the much-highlighted case had already started. 'Being an investigating officer, I am supposed to question both the complainant and the accused,' she said over the phone.

She, however, hastened to add that everything would be done according to prescribed rules. She said she was shifted to Kaimur from Buxar as no woman police officer was holding the post of the Women's police station at the district headquarters.

A senior IPS officer posted at the police headquarters said notices had already been served on the two police officers - Anand and Nirmala - asking them to depose before the three-member probe team constituted by the director-general of police P.K. Thakur.

The officers are scheduled to appear before the team headed by IG (headquarters) Anupama Nilekar Chandra in a day or two. Assistant inspector-general (inspection) Rajesh Kumar and Harpreet Kaur are the two other members of the probe committee.

Anand is posted as the commandant of the Mounted Military Police stationed at Ara in Bhojpur district. Nirmala was transferred to the Bihar Military Police stationed at Saharsa. A source said Nirmala had also earlier sent a doctor in Muzaffarpur to jail on harassment charges.
