Patna, Aug. 10: The growing influence of globalisation and a fast-growing economy has made it essential for professionals to learn at least one foreign language.
In recent times, a great demand for learning Asian language like Chinese, Japanese and Korean has been observed among students in Bihar.
This is because a large number of companies are venturing into India with strengthening trade relations between our country and other developed Asian countries.
Korean companies like Daewoo, Samsung, Hyundai and others have invested in India and created an opportunity for professionals. However, a major hurdle in this regard is the unfamiliarity with the Korean language, as Koreans are not very comfortable with English.
Patna University has taken the initiative by offering a two-year certificate course in Korean.
AN College professor Eun Kyeong Jeong has taught more than 70 students in the course since July, 2007.
The main focus of the course is to prepare students for Delhi University (DU) and Jawahar Lal Nehru University, who offer a degree course and also provide placement in reputed companies.
The professor said: “Foreign languages are in great demand among the students because they feel that knowledge of any foreign language will enhance their skill and they will land good offers in multinational companies.”
Professionals from all over the world are beginning to come to India to work in foreign companies.
What makes India an attractive destination are not just exciting compensation packages but also comfortable lifestyle and multiple growth options.
Work experience in India also enhances their job opportunities in their countries. The professor said: “The students are very intelligent and are quick learners, so it is fun to teach them. Though there are not many opportunities in Patna, when the students move to the metropolitan cities, they get good jobs.”
More than 10 students have qualified for DU and one of them has landed a scholarship in Korea. The success of the students is helping the course gain popularity.
