Patna, Feb. 11: The people of the state have got a platform to raise their voice against corruption with Transparency International India today launching a helpline, Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre, in the capital.
According to officials of the organisation, anybody who wants to fight graft can dial 9304220023 to get in touch with an Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre representative, who will not only listen to the caller’s grievances but will also provide him or her with necessary legal advice.
Transparency International India is an accredited chapter of Transparency International, a civil society group based in Berlin. Transparency International India chairman P.S. Bawa, who formally launched the helpline centre, said “It (the centre) will cater to the people of Patna and the state. We will assist people contacting us with their grievances, particularly while dealing with government departments.”
He added: “We will work as a bridge between an individual and the government if any person approaches us with any sort of complaints regarding corruption while getting things done at the department level. We will invoke the Right to Information Act as a tool to procure information if the government fails to city any plausible reason for non-fulfilment of any work.”
Transparency International India chapter executive director Anupama Jha said: “We have two helplines — one in Tamil Nadu and another in Jharkhand. But the facility in Bihar will be the first-of-its kind as it will be a full-fledged office.
