Patna, Sept. 19: Arvind Singh got a job as a programme officer of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme on September 4 last year. Little did he know that even a year after getting the job and four visits to chief minister Nitish Kumar’s janata darbar he would still not get his posting.
Arvind, who joined the job in Gaya last year, today visited Nitish’s janata darbar the fourth time with the same plea, hoping to get a solution to the problem that has left his life upside down for the past one year. However, apart from an assurance from the rural development department minister, Nitish Mishra, he did not get anything.
Upset, Arvind, who has a wife and two children to take care of, is now contemplating to move the Supreme Court or commit suicide. “He (Nitish) should stop his janata darbar if he cannot solve the problems of people like us,” a frustrated Arvind said before leaving the darbar.
The matter started when former deputy development commissioner Shashi Bhusan Prasad wrote a letter to the principle secretary of rural development department. Prasad sought guidelines whether the diploma in rural management and welfare administration course from Patna University could be considered as equivalent to the education qualification for the post of programme officer so that steps on Singh’s joining could be taken.
However, the secretary is yet to reply to that letter. “I have been running from pillar to post for the past one year but nothing has happened. I really do not know what is wrong with this man (principal secretary) who has taken the matter as a prestige issue. I have followed all the rules. It was clearly mentioned in the brochure that diploma in rural management and welfare administration will be accepted for the post of programme officer,” Arvind said.
The high court on September 7 has asked the principle secretary to issue an appropriate direction in six weeks.
