Patna, March 29: Two controversial IPS officers — Babu Ram and Ansuiya Ransingh Sahu — were reinstated today in the second shake-up in the police hierarchy within a week.
Both in the rank of superintendent of police (SP), Ram and Sahu have been posted as commandants of Bihar Military Police at Khagaul in Patna and Dumraon in Buxar district, respectively.
Ram raked up a controversy for his alleged role in the torture of a 20-year-old youth in police custody in January. He was removed from Sheikhpura following an inquiry by a high-level team headed by home department principal secretary Amir Subhani.
Sahu was Ram’s predecessor. She was shifted from Sheikhpura after a probe initiated by director-general of police Abhayanand found the charges of corruption against her prima facie true. Ram and Sahu were among the seven IPS officers transferred today. Shivdeep Lande, serving as Araria SP, has been appointed as ADC (aide-de-camp) to Governor D.Y. Patil. Lande belongs to Maharashtra, the state the governor hails from.
Gaya city SP Akhtar Hussan would replace Lande. Patna city additional superintendent of police Chandan Kushwaha has been asked to join as city SP, Gaya. Sudhanshu Kumar has been made deputy inspector-general of Munger range. He would replace Anil Kishore Yadav, released for central deputation.
