Motihari, April 4: Nearly half-a-dozen Naxalites lodged in prison may pose a serious threat to the security of Motihari district jail, a recent intelligence report sent to the Union home ministry has warned.

The report was sent after six Maoists were killed and 10 others were nabbed in an encounter in Darmaha village under Kesariya police station on March 13.

According to another intelligence report, the Maoists are contemplating the abduction of bureaucrats.

The depot of Indian Oil Corporation at Raxaul and other government offices in the district are also on the target of Maoists, said a report.

Mentioning the names of Musafir Sahni, Jai Mangal Thakur, Ram Pravesh Baitha, Gauri Shankar Jha, Bhagwati Rai, Aatish, Aslam and Rameshwar Ram, the report has suggested shifting of all the hardcore members of the outfit to some distant jail in view of the lurking security threat to Motihari Central Jail.

For the security of the prison, all six Naxalites, including Musafir Sahni, were shifted for six months to the Bhagalpur and Buxar central jails in September 2010.

The report also detailed about the presence of the rebels and added that there is an increase in the number of rebels in the district jail.

The East Champaran police superintendent, Ganesh Kumar, has issued stern directions to all station house officers and asked them to keep a strict vigil in the areas. Deputy inspector-general of police Champaran Range Pankaj Darar told The Telegraph the police are keeping a constant watch on the situation.
