Regent, the oldest cinema in the state capital, continues to reinvent itself to rule the hearts of film buffs. Its latest initiative — a smart card that offers free goodies on every cine trip.

The card, scheduled for launch in around a fortnight, would allow visitors to enjoy facilities without any hidden cost.

Suman Kumar Sinha, the owner of Regent, told The Telegraph: “In the next 15 days, this new system would be introduced at Regent. Cine buffs would be given a plastic card resembling an ATM card. At present, the cards are being manufactured in Mumbai.”

Visitors to Regent would have to fill an application form to get their hands on such a card. “People need to give details like names, addresses and contact number. Based on that, a card with a unique customer identification number would be generated. The cards would be free of cost,” said Sinha.

“The owner of the card would get coupons on every visit. The first will get a film buff free popcorn. Free soft drink will follow on the second visit, while a third visit would bring free popcorn and soft drink. A free movie ticket for another day would await the card holder on his/her fourth visit. The fifth time, the owner would need to renew his/her card but the customer identification number would remain the same.”

Saurabh Sinha, a film buff who lives in Kankerbagh, said: “This is a really good offer from the cinema management. But let me get a card first. The popcorn should not be a small pack. The soft drink should not have too much ice.”

The card will not have an expiry date and can be continued as long as one wants. “If any one wants to discontinue the service, they can surrender their cards to the cinema management,” said Singh.

He said: “My cinema is for the people, of the people and by the people. If profit making had been my only objective, my cinema would have not survived for 85 long years and would have been closed like many other cinemas in Patna.

“We have not hiked the rate of tickets while providing additional facilities to our patrons. I want to give them the best entertainment at the lowest price,” Sinha added.
