An associate professor of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday filed a criminal writ petition in the high court seeking protection from the health cradle’s director, Arun Kumar, who allegedly harassed her sexually.

In her petition, the associate professor stated that she feared she would not get justice as she was constantly being threatened. Director-general of police Abhayanand is the brother-in-law of Kumar.

She was physically assaulted by the director to withdraw her case, the petition stated.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Wednesday before a bench of Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh.

On Tuesday, both Arun Kumar and Abhayanand were not available for comments.

The petitioner has also filed a criminal case before the chief judicial magistrate against Arun Kumar.

A team of health department officials on February 1 had reportedly interrogated the IGIMS director for two-and-a-half hours, more than four months after the associate professor of nursing accused him of sexual harassment.

Health department secretary Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the interrogation had taken place.

The IGIMS director on February 3 had denied the charges.
