Sri Arvind Mahila College will have a change of name soon so that there is no misunderstanding after whom the institution is named — Sri Aurobindo.

A quick trivia: Established on August 15, 1960, the college was named Sri Arvind Institute. In 1980, its name was changed to Sri Arvind Mahila College. But unfortunately people think the college got its name after somebody called Arvind.

Name it right

Sri Arvind Mahila College will soon be renamed Sri Aurobindo Mahila College after freedom fighter and philosopher Sri Aurobindo. Magadh University, to which the college is affiliated, recently approved the institution’s proposal in the matter.

Shivnarayan Singh, an associate professor at the college, said: “We had sent a proposal to Magadh University to change the name of the college to Sri Aurobindo Mahila College because we found many people thought the institution was named after some Arvind. The college was named after Maharshi Aurobindo but that cannot be understood from the name. We are happy that Magadh University approved our proposal soon. Our principal Asha Singh is right now in the US. When she returns, a programme will be held to rename the college.”

The admission process to MEd for 2013-14 at the college also started on Monday. The last date of submission is July 10, while the entrance test will be conducted on July 18. The list for students selected for interview will be displayed on July19 while the final list of candidates selected for admission will be declared on July 24.
