Loyola High School student Sawan Kumar has been selected as one of the delegates at the Global Youth Peace Conference during the 7th international summit to be held in the US later this year.

More than 70 delegates from around 25 countries are expected to attend the seven-day summit (organised by Amala Foundation) that focuses on cultural exchange and leadership development. This year’s summit will be held at Austin, Texas, from August 12.

Sawan, a Class XII commerce student, is the city leader of New Delhi-based non-government organisation (NGO) A Fight for Rights. He applied for the conference in February and was selected after a telephonic interview. The 18-year-old, who is known for his oratory skills, said: “One of the members in the NGO, Rohit Kishan, inspired me to attend public speaking events and international youth conferences. This year, he advised me to apply for the Global Youth Peace Conference which I did in the first week of February.”

He had to submit an online application form which included six basic questions (such as what do policy makers do wrong) and 12 personality questions such as things he struggled with the most. Soon he was shortlisted after which he received a call from the US for a telephonic interview.

He said: “It lasted for more than 20 minutes. I was asked about my views how to spread peace in society and changes I want in my school and home.”
