Girl child cause on cover - Expo sees rush of visitors to get personalised stamps

Patna, Feb. 13: The fourth and concluding day of Bihar Stamp Expo-2012 today saw release of special covers of the Bihar postal circle on the themes of “Save Girls-Save Earth” and “Save Ganga”.

The covers were released by chief postmaster general Kaveri Banerjee and a host of philatelists.

An august gathering of renowned philatelists from the city, including R.S. Gandhi, Dr Pradeep Sarkar and Jagdeesh Pandey, graced the occasion. Besides, retired IPS officer and chairman of the Bihar State Board of Religious Trusts Acharya Kishore Kunal and principal secretary (cabinet co-ordination) Ravikant were present at the function among others. Kunal said: “I appreciate the postal department for releasing the two special covers on the themes of saving the girl child and the Ganga.”

Ravikant said: “Collection of stamps is one of the most popular hobbies among all. This habit has been pursued by several eminent personalities like Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.”

A major attraction of the exhibition was “My Stamp”. Sources said over 150 people registered for these personalised stamps with a registration fee of Rs 100 and Rs 400 for a sheet of 12 stamps with the photograph of the person inscribed on them.

The expo also showcased some rare stamps brought by over 150 philatelists from across the country.
