| School principals take part in a meet organised by The Telegraph at hotel Chanakya in Patna on Tuesday. The Telegraph is organising an inter-school competition, christened Udaan (for students of classes VI to VIII) and Shikhar (for students of classes IX to XII) from November 15 to 19. The events will be held at St Michael’s High School, DAV Public School (BSEB) and Litera Valley School. Representatives of over 12 leading schools of Patna took part in the meeting on Tuesday where participants were briefed about the rules and regulations. Among those present were representatives of St Michael’s School, Don Bosco Academy, DAV BSEB, Baldwin Academy, Patna Central School, St Dominic School, St Karen’s School, Open Mind School, Danapur, and Tribhuvan School. The competition would comprise outdoor as well as indoor games. Participants would have to carry the school identification card clearly showing their class. St Michael’s High School principal Father Peter Arockiasamy said: “It’s a privilege for our school to host such an event. Sports, whether indoor or outdoor, is a vital part of the school curriculum and we should encourage students to take part. The mental and the physical ability tests help improve the students’ personality and growth. These events encourage and motivate students to do better in academics.” Udaan and Shikhar are especially designed for students to showcase their talent and ability in different activities. The events will include indoor activities such as debate, quiz, drawing and creative writing. Outdoor activities would comprise track and field events (100m and 200m). All the winners in different activities would get gold, silver and bronze medals. There would be a few special awards like Best School, Best Student Athlete, Best Quizzing Team and Best Debating Team. For best athlete and student, points would be tabulated on the basis of medals won — one gold medal equals five points, one silver equals three points and one bronze equals two points.
