Patna: Imagine a guy having to tell a prospective bride's family his height, complexion and educational qualification when they come see him. Or of a group of girls teasing a guy in college, embarrassing him.
Students of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) are going to present many such scenes through a skit on gender sensitisation at the global youth conclave on February 25.
The programme is being organised by city-based non-government organisation Bhoomika Vihar in collaboration with the Canadian embassy and the National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of Bihar.
Students from Delhi University (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and other city colleges will attend.
"Bhoomika Vihar had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Canadian embassy to create gender youth speakers. The programme is part of this MoU," Bhoomika Vihar director Shilpi Singh said.
"We have also signed an MoU with NSS Bihar, to organise this global youth conclave, which will be different in that students from reputed institutions, like DU, BHU and CNLU will take part in the discourse on gender sensitisation. Harvard South Asia Institute's country director Sanjay Kumar will be the chief guest. Various interesting programmes will also be organised, including a skit on gender sensitisation by CNLU students."
"The skit by CNLU students will show a prospective bride asking her prospective groom to stand up to check his height," Shilpi said.
"She will then comment that he looks short in height. She will also ask the prospective groom about his educational qualification and remark that he should have got more degrees. The skit focuses on issues brides face during weddings, an ordeal grooms are spared.
The idea is to raise awareness about the trauma a bride undergoes. The advocacy in-charge of Bhoomika Vihar, Ashish Kumar, has scripted the play."
A painting exhibition on gender sensitisation will also be organised the same day, said Shilpi, adding that there will also be a ramp walk in which students of various institutes will participate.
