Gaya, July 6: The district would be the new address for the second officers’ training academy in the country.
Two important centres are being worked upon in the district to impart training to individuals who have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. One of the two centres would have the Officers’ Training Academy.
The academy could be inaugurated on July 18, sources told The Telegraph.
Sources said: “The plans as well as the date for the inauguration could be changed, keeping in mind the preparations.”
The cabinet committee on security, in December 2009, had formally approved the Officers’ Training Academy project in the district.
The academy is being set up in Gaya on the same campus where the Army Services Corps (ASC) centre (north) was stationed since 1976. The campus was shifted to Bangalore in April this year.
The Officers’ Training Academy in Gaya is the only the second one in the country after Chennai where training is imparted to officers of the Indian Army.
Sources said, in Gaya the training would be imparted to those individuals who are selected through the UPSC for the Indian Army.
Apart from the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, is the other centre in the country where training is imparted to army officials.
A centre in Pune imparts training to all the three wings — army, navy as well as the air force. Apart from the Officers’ Training Academy, administrative training institute would also start functioning in Gaya. Work on the project has already started near Paharpur village on the Gaya-Rajgir National Highway.
Besides UPSC, training would also be imparted to those selected through Bihar Public Services Commission at the training academy in Gaya.
