Funds for pilgrim route

Patna, Jan. 4: The Bihar cabinet today approved a plan for construction of a parallel 82.65-km of the Sultanganj-Deoghar road that falls in the state.

The high-level road will be constructed at a cost of Rs 69 crore and will ran parallel to the existing Sultanganj-Deoghar road.

Bihar covers 82.65 km of the total distance from Sultanganj to Deoghar, leaving around 40km of the kanwariya route in Jharkhand. The pilgrims use the route during Sawan Mela in the monsoon months.

Along the route, the Bihar road construction department will also construct bridges, causeways, subways, guard walls along with 4.5km broad unmetalled road for kanwariyas.

Apart from this, the cabinet also approved a grant of Rs 1.5 crore each to the Sainik School in Nalanda and Gopalganj respectively.

Under the mid-day meal scheme, the cabinet also granted Rs 71.14 crore. Of the total grant, the Centre corpus is Rs 53.98 lakh, while the state would contribute Rs 17.16 crore.

The fund granted will be used to improve the quality of food provided to students in schools.

Under the electrification scheme, the Bihar cabinet also granted Rs 129.03 crore for speeding up ongoing electrification programmes going on at various levels.

Moreover, under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme, the Bihar cabinet granted Rs 14.98 crore the to Bihar State Electricity Board for payment as entry tax during the process of equipment purchase.

The state cabinet also de-notified the Rajauli nagar panchayat, as people from the region approached the high court for its de-notification so that Rajauli is considered as panchayat.

The Tuesday cabinet had also a few sops for the home department as the cabinet has approved constitution of 270 posts of security guards to be deputed as Home Guards in various districts.
