Gaya, June 15: Tired of funds crunch, the teachers of Dr Rambalak Singh Gaya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital have sought chief minister Nitish Kumar’s intervention in providing the institution financial aid.
The only homoeopathic medical college in Magadh division is in a shambles for want of funds. It functions without any financial aid from the state government. Sources said the representatives of the college had met the chief minister at his janata darbar at least five times and placed their demands before him.
The principal of the college, Ravindra Kumar, told The Telegraph: “Payment of salaries of teaching and the non-teaching employees are being met through internal resources. At present, around Rs 20 lakh is spent to pay the salaries of 43 teaching and around 50 non-teaching employees per annum.” The teachers of the college said the chief minister had announced that no college in the state would remain unaided. They said the chief minister should now initiate steps to provide them financial aid.
In the absence of financial assistance, development works like construction of hostel, library and laboratory in the college are being hampered.
Established in 1967, Dr Rambalak Singh Gaya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital is affiliated to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University. Its overall strength is 250.
The teaching and the non-teaching employees of GHMCH have demanded that the chief minister provide financial aid to enable the varsity improve facilities benefiting students and employees.
Among the students enrolled here, nearly 50 per cent are girls. They come from various states like Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. However, the college does not have a hostel for them. They are forced to live on rent in Gaya or Bodhgaya.
