Disgraced Intermediate arts "topper" Ruby Rai leaves the Gai Ghat remand home in Patna City for home in Vaishali with her mother Geeta Kumari on Tuesday. A local court in Patna granted Ruby, a student of Vishun Roy College, bail on Monday in the topper scam case. Last month, the special vigilance court accepted Ruby is a minor and shifted her to the girls' remand home in Patna City. On Tuesday morning, her grandfather Munshi Prasad Rai, mother Geeta and uncle Brajesh came to Patna to take her back home. Although Munshi Rai came to Patna earlier to meet Ruby, this was the first time any of her other family members, especially either of her parents, came to the city. Geeta told The Telegraph that she was afraid to come to meet her daughter till now. "I was afraid (to come) as I thought the police will arrest me too," she said. "However, we consulted some lawyers and they told me I would not be arrested so I came. I am happy to see my daughter after such a long time. My primary concern now is to comfort her and try to get her into studies again." She, however, refused to say anything about her absconding husband, Awadhesh Rai. Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj clarified only the fathers of the "toppers" have been made co-accused in the Intermediate result scam hatched by Vishun Roy College owner Bachcha Rai, former Bihar School Examination Board chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh and his wife, Usha Sinha. Ruby, who walked out of the remand home around 2.15pm, looked happy albeit a little stressed. " Mera matha kharab ho raha tha (I was going crazy)," she said, adding that she wanted to study. "I am innocent and it is the administration which trapped me. I want to become a lawyer."
