Patna, May 18: A CBI team from New Delhi today arrested a final-year student of Master of Surgery (MS) at Patna Medical College and Hospital on charges of impersonation, cheating and fraud.

Dr Amrendra Kumar, the student, was taken into custody as soon as he emerged after appearing for the practical examinations. Sources said Amrendra, a resident of Musepur village in Nalanda, had hired a ghost-writer for the 2010 entrance examination for MS (general) conducted by the CBSE.

The photograph, thumbimpression of the left hand and signature on the admit card of the ghost-writer did not match with that of Amrendra’s. Amrendra was produced before a special CBI court in Patna and subsequently taken to New Delhi on a three-day transit remand.

Patna Medical College principal Dr N.P. Singh confirmed the arrest but refused to divulge any more information.
