Four men kidnapped a 14-year-old girl, raped her, shot the crime on video and uploaded it on social networking sites to shame her into silence.

The incident occurred on Saturday night in a village under the jurisdiction of Katra police station in Muzaffarpur district. The girl was visiting the village fair on Dussehra. She was admitted to a government hospital in Muzaffarpur, around 80km north of Patna, for treatment.

The girl, said to be a resident of Gai Ghat in Muzaffarpur district, went to her relative's house on September 28 for Durga Puja. In her police complaint, the girl said four young men followed her while she was walking back to her relative's house from the village fair around midnight.

The men forcibly took her to an isolated place and raped her. While two youths raped her, two others shot a video. The girl bit the hand of one of the rapists and managed to escape from their clutches.

She managed to reach the house of a local resident and narrated her tale. The resident refused to help her. Then, she narrated the incident to her brother's wife, who informed other family members. The family raised the matter with the panchayat, in vain.

The girl told the police that she could identify her rapists and that her relatives had caught the four men but some neighbours had helped them escape.

'I find it tough to bear the mental agony,' the girl told a senior police officer.

Katra police station house officer (SHO) Ratan Kumar Yadav said seven persons have been named as accused in the FIR lodged on Sunday based on the girl's statement. While four have been accused of raping the girl, three others have been charged with abetment of crime.

'Raids have been conducted to nab the accused, who are absconding after the incident,' the SHO told The Telegraph over phone. Efforts to contact Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar proved futile.

Gangan Kumar, Sachin Kumar, Anib and Raushan Kumar have been identified as prime accused in the case. Police said all four were residents of Nawada village in Muzaffarpur and had threatened the girl with dire consequences if she reported the incident to the police.

Apart from Section 376 (rape) of IPC, relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, have been slapped on the accused. The girl was sent for medical examination and proper treatment at the district headquarters town.

A source close to the survivor's family said the girl is so traumatised that she has stopped talking to those who came to meet her in hospital.

'Leave me alone,' she told one of the relatives.
