Former VC under vigilance scanner

Chhapra, Jan. 24: The vigilance department is mulling to tighten its noose around R.P. Sharma, the former vice-chancellor (VC) of Jai Prakash University, for allegedly indulging in irregularities.

The vigilance department has sought from the present VC, Ram Vinod Singh, information related to the irregularities.

After receiving directives from the vigilance superintendent of police (SP), Patna, the SP of vigilance, Siwan regional office, Jagdish Pal, has asked the university officials to provide all information pertaining to the irregularities so that an inquiry against the former VC could be initiated.

Tapasvi Prasad Singh, the registrar of the university, today told The Telegraph that information sought by the vigilance department relate to anomalies in various sections of the university work.

He has conveyed the vigilance order to section heads and asked them to furnish all information at the earliest so that the report could be submitted to the department, a source said.

Pal, in his letter, has sought information regarding the purchase of a Toyota Innova and an Ambassador and the Rs 32,000 spent for a number of his choice — 0009 —for a vehicle.

The vigilance department has also sought the information about the alleged appointment of Sharma’s two relatives in the political science department of ZA Islamia College, Siwan.

The department has also taken serious note of the “illegal” appointments of about 70 Grade III and IV employees during Sharma’s tenure.
