Patna, Aug. 31: Two persons, believed to be a part of a gang involved in swindling international currency, were arrested today.
The arrests were made under the jurisdiction of Gardanibagh police station. Turkish currency worth 2,50,000 liras, currency from Peru worth 1,00,000, Omani currency worth 200 and currency from Korea worth 1,000 were recovered from the duo.
Patna SSP B.S. Meena said it was being investigated as to whether these currencies were real or fake. The value of these currencies is around Rs 25 lakh in Indian currency, an official at the Gardanibagh police station said.
“We are investigating as to what they did with the currencies. Right now the things are not very clear. The duo, identified as Vijay Kumar Pandey, a resident of Nalanda, and Srichand Kewat, also from Nalanda, are being questioned at the moment. The interrogations till now have proved that they were involved in the smuggling of statues and currencies,” the SSP said.
In another catch, the Kotwali police, in coordination with the special cell, today arrested three persons and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from them.
The trio have been identified as Raju Kumar, Umesh Kumar and Vicky. All of them are from Patna district.
The arms recovered include two carbines, two magazines, three pistols with six magazines, 12 country-made pistols, 10 rounds of .315 bore cartridges, eight 9mm bullets and two mobile phones.
The Patna SSP said the trio supplied arms to gangs in Lakhisarai and Nawada. They have their connections in Delhi, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, the SSP said.
