Government Railway Police have deployed CRPF commandos in 13 north Bihar districts following tip-offs about Maoists planning attacks on the railways.

The security measure started from Monday. Personnel of the central force that is assigned to the GRP will protect railway properties and stations, which are vulnerable to Maoist attacks according to recent intelligence inputs.

The GRP have alerted railway stations in Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Motihari, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Bettiah, Bagaha, Hajipur, Chhapra, Siwan and Gopalganj in view of the security threats.

Muzaffarpur district magistrate Anupam Kumar has also directed senior superintendent of police Saurav Kumar and superintendent of railway police, Muzaffarpur zone, Vinod Kumar to take precautionary measures along the railway routes.

Vinod Kumar told The Telegraph: “The Government Railway Police have deputed CRPF commandos to tackle the onslaught of rebels and protect railway properties and the passengers travelling through Maoist-hit areas.”

The GRP have prepared a comprehensive plan to prevent attacks on railway tracks and stations by the rebels.

The superintendent of railway police said the CRPF personnel would patrol the compartments of the prominent and super-fast trains passing through the vulnerable areas to ensure the safety and security of passengers in the event of a bandh called by the rebels.

The commandos would also make a round of the vulnerable railway stations and tracks, fully equipped with sophisticated weapons like AK-47 and Insas rifles.

Muzaffarpur district magistrate Anupam Kumar said: “According to sources, the activities of rebels have increased recently. They are planning to hurt security personnel travelling on railway sections, including the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur and Muzaffarpur-Samastipur routes.”

He added: “Police, in coordination with the GRP, have also being directed to maintain strict vigil on the tracks and railway stations declared vulnerable. The police have launched search operations in Deoriya, Shivaipatti, Baroraj, Minapur, Sahebganj, Paroo, Dharfari, Sakra and Malkoni villages in the district.”

The superintendent of railway police, Vinod Kumar, said the CRPF personnel deputed at the railway stations have been imparted three-month guerrilla training at the anti-Naxalite training centre in Silchar.
