Narendra Modi would step into a fortress.
More than 4,000 police personnel will be deployed at different places across the city for the Prime Minister's security on Saturday.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vikas Vaibhav told The Telegraph that final discussions with regard to security arrangements and traffic diversions were going on at present.
"At present, we can say that 4,000-5,000 policemen will be in and around Patna on July 25. Personnel from Patna and also from the neighbouring districts will be engaged in this work. Special care will be taken of those places where the Prime Minister would visit. Though we cannot disclose much but the whole stretch from the airport to SK Memorial Hall will witness one superintendent of police or deputy superintendent of police-rank officer at every kilometre," Vaibhav added.
The two places are around 7km apart.
Sources said jawans from Bihar Military Police (BMP), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the Special Task Force would also be deputed for providing security cover to Modi.
As per the initial programme sourced from the Prime Minister's Office, Modi will land at Patna airport at 10.15am and reach the Veterinary College ground by 10.30am. From there, he will leave for SK Memorial Hall to attend the meeting of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at 11.45am.
At 1.15pm, Modi will leave for the airport again and go to Muzaffarpur where he is scheduled to address a rally at 2pm. He will return to Patna after that and leave for New Delhi at 4pm.
Deputy inspector-general of police (central range) Shalin said all security measures would be taken. "The police here will follow all the norms and rules in connection with the security given to the Prime Minister. Discussions have happened and the same are continuing," the officer said.
With the final traffic plan and road blockades and diversions in connection with Modi's visit being finalised by late on Wednesday evening or Thursday at the most, police sources said that commuters should take caution while moving on roads on July 25.
"Thoroughfares like Bailey Road, Airport Road, Dakbungalow Road, Hartali Mor and others should be avoided. Though the final plan is not ready yet, the roads could see a closure for sometime on July 25. For example, the Prime Minister will spend more than an hour at SK Memorial Hall and it can very well happen that the roads along the whole Gandhi Maidan get closed while he is there on suggestions of the Special Protection Group. People can use alternative roads like Boring Road, Rajapur Pul and others to reach their destinations. A meeting is scheduled on Wednesday evening and things will be finalised only after that. Cops on the streets, apart from providing security, will also help commuters towards informing them about the alternative roads," a police officer, requesting anonymity, said.
The last time Modi visited Patna was in October 2013 when a series of blasts disrupted Hunkar Rally. At least six persons were killed and several others injured during the blasts.
In fact, the police have also stepped up security of the prime accused in the 2013 blasts case following an alert about a plan to set them free ahead of Modi's visit to the city. The officials of the police headquarters and the Patna police received the intelligence input some days ago. It hinted at a plot allegedly scripted by a terror group to attack the security personnel during the production of the blasts accused in the special NIA court.
