Patna, Nov. 15: Motorists had a tough time this morning steering through fog, which partially disrupted flight and train services in the city.
Most of the morning flights arrived late because of the dense fog. Two flights were cancelled.
GoAir cancelled its Delhi-Patna-Delhi-Mumbai flight (G8 342). It was scheduled to arrive here at 8.30am.
Jet Airways cancelled its Calcutta-Patna-Calcutta flight (9W 2853). Its scheduled arrival time here was 7.40am.
On Monday, no flights were allowed to land before 12noon because of poor visibility.
On roads, traffic moved at a snail’s pace in the morning because of the fog.
A person driving his son to school in his car said: “It is very difficult to drive amid fog. But this is just the beginning. The fog would intensify as the temperature dips.”
Ravi Kumar, a youth driving a two-wheeler, said: “One has to drive cautiously amid fog. Speeding can cause mishap.”
Met experts attributed the foggy condition to the high atmospheric moisture content.
“Despite the minimum temperature hovering around normal, foggy conditions are being observed in north Bihar and parts of central Bihar, including the state capital. The reason behind such a condition is high atmospheric moisture content because of heavy late rainfall and continuous flow of easterly winds. The situation will remain the same at least for the next five days in north Bihar and some parts of central Bihar because of the presence of easterly winds,” said Abdul Sattar, the assistant professor of meteorology at Rajendra Agriculture University, Pusa.
Animesh Chanda, the director of Patna Met department, said foggy conditions was a routine affair. “The foggy conditions are usual in the months of November, December, January and February. At present, foggy conditions are being observed in the state capital from 9am to 11am. The minimum temperature in Patna would veer around 19ºC and the maximum temperature would hover around 30ºC in the next two to three days. The minimum temperature would be around 15ºC in the last week of November,” said Chanda.
