New Delhi, Aug. 5 (PTI): Rajya Sabha today condemned the bomb blasts at Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodhgaya and the Maoists attack on a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh that led to the killing of senior party leaders.

The serial blasts at one of the holiest shrines of Buddhism took place on July 7. Senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma was killed in the attack on his convoy in Jagdalpur district on May 26. Former Union minister V.C. Shukla died later.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari described the terrorist attack on Mahabodhi Mahavihara as a “senseless act of violence” and said it was “a cause of anguish and deep concern to all”. He also mentioned the Maoist ambush on a convoy of Congress leaders in a dense forest that left 27 persons dead.

Ansari also made a reference to the killing of six persons including the superintendent of police of Pakur district, Amarjit Balihar, in a Maoist attack in Jharkhand on July 2.

Mentioning the death of 23 children because of food poisoning after consuming midday meal at a school in Saran district, Ansari said the loss was “painful and sad”. The Chairman also made a reference to flash floods in Uttarakhand.
