If the train speed drops below 60kmph, the bomb will explode. Pace and thrill, straight out of a Hollywood film, won the hearts of Patnaites on Friday with Tezz.

With a star-studded cast of Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Boman Irani, Sameera Reddy, Kangana Ranaut and Mohan Lal, Friday’s release from the Priyadarshan stable kept cinegoers at the edge of their seats.

Aakash (Ajay), an engineer in London, is deported to India for violating immigration laws. Separated from wife Nikita (Kangana), Aakash returns to the UK after four years to take revenge on the authorities. Former co-workers Meghna (Sameera) and Aadil (Zayed) help him plant a bomb on a train to Glasgow from London.

Tezz’s first-day collections from three cinemas — Regent, Mona and Cinepolis — in Patna stood at Rs 4,65,796. Last week’s releases, Hate Story and Vicky Donor, had collected Rs 3,60,478 and Rs 3,85,682 respectively. The first-day cinegoers put their vote on the chase sequences and fast-paced scenes of Tezz, which till a few years back was the sole territory of Hollywood. Meghna being chased by a police team headed by Arjun Khanna (Anil) through the London streets just before the interval was one of the scenes on top of the list.

“The scene was excellent. It had a lot of excitement and thrill but the way she excels is noteworthy. After a long time, I have seen such a chase in a Hindi film. The scene where Anil Kapoor chases Zayed Khan was again brilliant,” said Nishant Kumar, a resident of Nageshwar Colony, who had gone to Regent to catch the film.

“The scene where two trains run on the same track before being diverted seconds before collision by the railway traffic controller played by Boman Irani was mindblowing. Such scenes are only seen in Hollywood films but now even Bollywood has started to have them,” said Ritesh Ranjan, a cinegoer at Cinepolis.

Sixteen shows are running in the state capital — five at Regent, three at Mona and eight at Cinepolis.

Regent owner Suman Kumar Sinha said: “Patna people like action films and Tezz falls in the category. I expect the film to do good business.”
