Birla Institute of Technology (BIT)-Mesra on Friday offered up to 50 per cent rebate in fees for students from Bihar and Jharkhand in its offshore campus near Dubai in United Arab Emirates.
Those planning to study engineering courses abroad will now have an option at BIT-Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates campus) from this year. Ras Al Khaimah is an emirate in the UAE.
The institute on Friday started the admission counselling for students of Bihar.
"To increase the number of students from Bihar and Jharkhand in our offshore Dubai campus, we will provide up to 50 per cent rebate in fee for engineering courses," P.K. Upadhaya, the academic coordinator of the BIT-UAE campus, told reporters.
There are about 450 students in various courses in BIT-UAE, hailing mostly from Kerala and Tamil Nadu but only four-five were from Bihar and Jharkhand, he said. The counselling would continue till July 5, Upadhaya said.
"On the demands of the students here, the BIT-UAE campus has decided to carry out the counselling of students. Those having more than 50 per cent marks in Class XII can apply. The institute after short-listing the candidates will call up the students for admissions," Upadhaya said.
Students who couldn't crack JEE-Advanced or Mains but desires to study engineering abroad have an option at BIT-UAE. The UAE campus offers five courses, including computer science, civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering.
The tuition fee for four-year engineering course comes to around Rs 25 lakh, excluding food and accommodation charges.Sources said the fees structure of the campus is nearly four times more than the IITs and the NITs.
According to NIT-Patna director Asok De, the yearly tuition fees of IITs is around Rs 1 lakh and if the lodging and food charges are included, a student studying at the IITs would have to spend around Rs 5.5 lakh during his four-year stay.
Similarly, the fees structure at NIT-Patna is lesser compared to the IITs, as students have to pay around Rs 5 lakh for their four-year stint.
Anurag Prakash, a student who cleared his Class XII examination from DAV-BSEB, said: "Though the institute is an offshore campus of BIT-Mesra, which is ranked second in private engineering colleges, the fees structure is comparatively higher than many private engineering colleges in the country."?
