Police suspect that Kailash alias Nepali (25), the purported psychopath who allegedly sodomised and killed 12-year-old Monu on Wednesday evening, was assisted in committing the crime.
Kailash was nabbed from the Bihar Vidyapeeth campus on Thursday afternoon within hours of the recovery of Monu’s body. Monu, son of a washerman, Raju Rajak, left home around 6.30pm on Wednesday to fetch milk for the family but did not return.
Senior police officers on Friday said Kailash’s father could also be a party in the crime.
“The police would file a chargesheet against Kailash in two to three days. Investigations are on. We are waiting for the forensic science laboratory report to arrive in a few days. Thereafter, we will take him on remand for further questioning,” Manu Maharaj, the senior superintendent of police (SSP), told The Telegraph on Friday.
The officer added that investigations have revealed that his father could have assisted him in carrying out the crime on Wednesday.
“The police, at present, cannot disclose details about this angle. But the probe indicates that Kailash’s father could have been involved. He has not been arrested since more evidence is being collected. Once that is done, the man would be nabbed. He is under surveillance now,” said the SSP.
Kailash confessed to the police on Thursday that apart from killing Monu, he had also sodomised and killed another 10-year-old boy, Rahul, at the same place three months ago.
“In Monu’s case, Kailash had stated that he had an enmity with the deceased’s father, Raju Rajak. That could have been the reason he targeted the boy. His father might have assisted him in committing the crime. Or his father too could be a habitual offender as Kailash. Our investigations are on. A few more angles would gradually become clearer in a short time. Till now, Kailash had confessed killing two children,” another police officer told The Telegraph.
Police officers said in the course of the interrogation, Kailash appeared to be extremely cold and showed no sign of remorse.
“His attitude was extremely cold without any emotion. And he had no regrets for his acts. He may have committed more crimes which are yet to be detected. Investigations are on in full swing,” the officer said.
