Motihari, April 9: Taking inspiration from the agitation of Anna Hazare against corruption, the vice-chairperson of Motihari Nagar Parishad, Raj Kumari Gupta, started fast-unto-death near the local Gandhi Chowk here on Saturday.
Gupta has been regularly protesting the financial irregularities and versatile corruption in Motihari Nagar Parishad. She has a long list of financial irregularities and corruption in the Motihari Nagar Parishad. She protested the indifference of the district administration while dealing with key issues. The vice-chairperson has demanded a vigilance inquiry into the matter.
and even offered to relinquish her office, if the allegations against the chairperson, officials and other office bearers are found to be untrue.
Gupta also expressed her concerns over the discrimination against councillors of about 20 wards, in which people were deprived of any development schemes in the past four years.
She also raised her voice against the deteriorating health conditions in the district.
When contacted the nagar parishad chairperson, Prakash Asthana told The Telegraph the whole episode is “politically motivated”.
Asthana said: “Besides clearing the salary backlog of 4.5 years of the nagar parishad employees, a grant for provident fund in 143 pending cases, payment to the employees according to the recommendations of sixth pay commission and clearance of the liabilities over the parishad, are among the things the Motihari Nagar Parishad has done in the past four years.”
