Patna, Nov. 18: Farmers of Digha, whose land was acquired by the state government to construct homes, are unhappy over the compensation they were given. They are now mulling to tread the protest path to get “justice”.

At a press meet organised today, by Digha Krishi Bhoomi-Awaas Bachao Sangharsh Samiti president Manoranjan Prasad Singh said: “The land was been occupied 37 years back but not a single paisa has been given to the farmers as compensation. Tetri Devi, one of the claimants, was given compensation. But the cheque she was issued was dishonoured.”

He added that the samiti had earlier protested against this but in vain. Now, it will stage dharna at JP roundabout and Gandhi Maidan on November 22. The dharna would be followed by a demonstration in front of Bihar Legislative Assembly on December 8.

Virendra Kumar Singh, a member of the samiti, said: “The land was occupied to provide homes to vagrants. But the area has around 10,000 houses now.”
