Police on Wednesday quizzed Bakhtiyarpur RJD MLA Aniruddh Prasad in an extortion case slapped on him by a private contractor.

Sunil Singh, the contractor, lodged an FIR with Salimpur police station in Patna rural on Monday, accusing the MLA of demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion.

Singh’s company has been awarded the contract to construct a 4.5km road in Patna rural for Rs 2.26 crore. He claimed Aniruddh came to the site on Sunday and threatened him with dire consequences. The MLA denied the charges.

Patna superintendent of police (rural) Har Kishore Rai said Barh additional superintendent of police Manoj Kumar Tiwary has been assigned the job to probe the charges.

“The contractor is not in a mood to return the money, which he had taken from me earlier as loan for business purposes,” the MLA was quoted as telling the officer.

Tiwary on Wednesday asked Aniruddh for the documents to substantiate his claim. The MLA said he would provide all the details to the police. “He has levelled charges against me with ulterior motives,” he added.

Tiwary told The Telegraph: “I have asked him to submit evidence to prove the charges against the complainant whose construction company, Patliputra Infrastructure (Pvt) Company, had been awarded the contract to construct the road between Muradpur and Saidpur villages in Patna rural.”

Singh had alleged that the MLA visited the construction site on Sunday, stalled work and took away equipment after he refused to oblige him. “He directed his gun-toting men to assault the construction workers and threatened me with dire consequences,” he said.
