Patna: Neurologists, neurosurgeons, physicians and paediatricians from various states, including Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Nepal, talked about neurology care at an event organised by the state chapter of Indian Epilepsy Association on Sunday.
Governor Satya Pal Malik was the chief guest and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) director N.R. Biswas was the guest of honour. Neurologist Dr Gopal Prasad Sinha, neurosurgeon-cum vice-chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) Dr A.K. Agarwal, head, neurology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) Dr Ashok Kumar and others were present.
Dr U.K. Mishra from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, discussed the management of status epilepticus (seizure in epileptic patients lasting more than five minutes). He also talked about the status epilepticus in pregnancy.
Dr Dhiraj Khurana from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, discussed about the management of ischemic stroke which occurs as a result of an obstruction within a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain, how to prevent and treat it.
Dr Debashish Chowdhury of the Delhi-based GB Pant Hospital presented interesting cases of neurological disorders, mainly headache.
Anshu Rohtagi from Delhi's Ganga Ram Hospital spoke on newer drugs being used for the treatment of epilepsy patients. She also talked about the cerebral haemorrhage, how to suspect its cases clinically and how to proceed, diagnose and manage.
Dr Abhay Ranjan of IGIMS talked about management of epilepsy among women patients during his speech while consultant radiologist from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) Amar Kumar Singh spoke about spine-related problems.
"The idea behind the update was to disseminate information from very basic to the most advanced to all concerned about neurological care, said organising secretary Dr Ashok.
