Engineer commits suicide

A chief engineer working with the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) on Tuesday committed suicide by jumping off from the top floor of his brother's apartment as he was allegedly upset with his job.

Patna: A chief engineer working with the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) on Tuesday committed suicide by jumping off from the top floor of his brother's apartment as he was allegedly upset with his job.

The victim identified as Sudhir Kumar Sinha, 59, was working as the chief engineer and was posted at PHED Bhagalpur. His elder brother Sunil Kumar Sinha, a retired banker, said: "My brother was unhappy with his job. On several occasions he had mentioned about quitting his job. A few months back, my brother was promoted from superintending engineer to chief engineer and was transferred from Patna to Bhagalpur. But he had told us he had taken a wrong decision seeking a promotion."

Sunil used to tell Sudhir only a few months were left before he retired in December and so he could seek voluntary retirement or go on medical leave if he was unhappy with the job.The death has shocked the family because this February Sudhir got his son Archit married. The victim is survived by his widow and son.Sudhir who used to live with his family at Patliputra colony area, onTuesday morning reached his brother house at Tara Apartment at A.G. Colony.Sudhir without informing anyone went to top floor and jumped from thebuilding. The security guard of the apartment on seeing the dead body ofthe man informed the other residents of apartment. The Shastri Nagar policetoo was informed about the incident.

Shastri Nagar police station, SHO Nihar Bhushan said: “As Sudhir jumpedfrom top floor his face was badly damaged and was not recognizable. Thevictim’s identify was known from his I card kept at his pocket.�

The police informed Sudhir’s brother, Sunil Kumar Sinha living at sameapartment about the incident. The victim widow and his son were alsoinformed about the incident. The Shastri Nagar police have lodged anunnatural death (UD) case in this connection. SHO said: “The police haveregistered a UD case based on the statements of victim’s family members,but the police will probe the reasons behind the death.�

Binda Singh, clinical psychologist said: “There may be several reasonsbehind the suicide. The man might be depressed with his work and withchange in location he might not be able to adjust the stress.� Bindaclaimed that family tension can be other reason behind the death. “It hasbeen observed that person committing such drastic step are much emotionaland in stress they take such drastic steps.� <>
