Electronic banking facility in post offices
Union minister for communications and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurates the first post office savings bank ATM in Bihar at Patna General Post Office on Saturday. He launched core-banking services for 30 head post-offices and promised to connect the remaining 8,000 within a year. "The initiative is to make the postal department technology-oriented," he said. The ATM allows customers to withdraw money from the post office savings accounts, get account statements, and other banking services. To start with, 17,075 account holders of Bankipore post office and 42,687 of Patna GPO will be able to avail this facility. For now, customers can withdraw maximum of Rs 25,000 a day and Rs 10,000 per transaction. In the first phase, Bankipore post office would issue the ATM cards to those account holders, who have minimum savings of Rs 25,000.
