Edusat training comes to a close

Darbhanga, Feb. 13: A two-day orientation programme on Edusat (education satellite) Network for northern states of the country aimed to train participants on ways to use the new software, concluded on Saturday.

The programme was sponsored by Delhi-based Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organisation for popularisation of science among masses under the Union ministry of science and technology on the campus of Satellite Interactive Terminal, Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), Darbhanga.

Around 16 experts participated from 10 satellite interactive terminals located at Noida and Lucknow (UP), Shimla and Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Dehradun (Uttaranchal), Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), New Delhi and Patna. Resource person Irfana Begum, the national co-ordinator, Edusat under Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi, led the group.

Farooq Ahmad Pandit research officer of state institute of education, Srinagar, Romesh Kumar scientific officer from Shimla, Abhinav Dubey from Dehradun and Pasi Sunil Subedar, engineer of Edusat, Bihar council on science and technology, ISGC, Planetarium, Patna also attended the programme.

Begum told The Telegraph: “Presently, Vigyan Prasar has 52 satellite interactive terminals spread across the country acting as classroom ends where Vigyan Prasar multicasts different programmes through Edusat.”

In Bihar, there are only two satellite interactive terminals — one located at Patna and the other at Lalit Narayan Mithila University campus. “As LNMU has been rated as a very active terminal by Vigyan Prasar, this orientation programme is being organised here,” Begum said.
