Patna, Feb. 1: Two years down the line, Bailey Road would not be as busy. The state government today cleared the proposal of constructing a four-lane flyover over it by 2013-14.
“The state cabinet today gave its administrative approval to the construction of the flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 161.97 crore. It would come up between Sheikhpura Mor and a point west of Jagdeo Path Mor,” the cabinet co-ordination department’s principal secretary Ravikant told reporters here.
The total length of the flyover would be 2.625km, including 350m of approach road. The Telegraph had reported about it in its December 17, 2011 edition.
“Of the total project cost of Rs 161.97 crore, the Union government would provide Rs 48 crore as additional central assistance. The state government would contribute the rest — Rs 113.97 crore — from the state’s plan,” Ravikant said, adding that the flyover would be ready by 2013-14.
“The flyover’s specification has been made keeping in mind the requirement of service roads, which would run parallel to the bridge on both sides. It would ensure smooth traffic flow even during construction,” an official said.
The road construction department sources said it came up with the idea of constructing the flyover anticipating an increase in traffic on Bailey Road once the Sonepur-Digha rail-cum-road bridge across the Ganga was complete.
Besides the flyover, the cabinet approved 22 proposals. It approved Rs 40 crore for acquiring 25.02 acres of land for construction of a new bus terminal at Mauja Pahari. Ravikant said the private bus stand at Mithapur will be shifted to Mauja Pahari by March 2014.
