If Punjab has Navjot Singh Sidhu who has continued his television assignments despite being a minister in the Amarinder Singh government, Bihar has Sanjay Kumar Singh.
Also known as Sanjay Yadav, the RJD MLA from Karakat Assembly constituency in Rohtas district is the lone serving MLA who is also a Bhojpuri film actor.
The first-term lawmaker, who defeated BJP candidate Rajeswar Raj by nearly 13,000 votes in the 2015 Assembly election, continued his passion the way Sidhu is doing while being regular on TV as a permanent guest in The Kapil Sharma Show.
Sanjay, 38, first appeared in the Bhojpuri film Pratigya 2 directed by Sushil Kumar Upadhyay, which released on February 2, 2014.
Before that he appeared in several other Bhojpuri films with small roles but Pratigya 2 was the first movie in which he played a significant role.
"In Pratigya 2, I played the role of villain Bhokal Singh. It was my dream to act in Bhojpuri films and today also I have continued my passion despite being an MLA. I do not find any problem being an actor while holding a public post. I am an actor but I do not compromise on my duties of a public representative," Sanjay told The Telegraph inside the Assembly building.
After becoming an MLA, he has completed two more movies, Ek Rajai Teen Lugai and Naseeb, which will hit the screens in April and May 2017, respectively.
The RJD MLA, who considers party chief Lalu Prasad as his god, said: "In Ek Rajai Teen Lugai, I play the role of an honest police inspector like Salman Khan in Dabangg. In Naseeb, I play the role of an elder brother who struggles to make sure his younger brother achieves his dream."
Son of Ajit Kumar Singh (retired employee from Bokaro Steel Plant) and late Ramkali Devi, Sanjay is married to Geeta Devi and has four children.
"Before going to Mumbai to shoot, I go around my constituency that has 20 panchayats. I take permission from the people of my constituency. I tell them that I would be out of my constituency for shooting for 20 days or more," Sanjay said.
"They happily allow me and say they do not have any problem with that."
From April 20 to May 20, 2017, he will tour his constituency and before that he will be in Mumbai to shoot two movies, of which one is yet untitled.
"I will go to Mumbai to take part in the muhurat of the film Babuji. It would be the most expensive Bhojpuri movie, don't ask me the budget yet. I will tell you later," Sanjay said.
His family lives in Bikramganj city in Rohtas district and all his children study there.
