Muzaffarpur, Oct. 26: Doctors referred JD(U) MP from Muzaffarpur Captain Jai Narayan Nishad, suspected to be suffering from dengue, to New Delhi today.

Ajay Nishad, son of the 82-year-old legislator, said Nishad was admitted to a nursing home in Juran Chapra area of Muzaffarpur, around 70km northeast of Patna, last night. The octogenarian, who had a mild fever since October 24, was rushed to the nursing home after he had complained of high fever and nausea. He was examined by Muzaffarpur civil surgeon Gyan Bhushan.

This morning, physician B.B. Thakur and other experts examined Nishad. Suspecting the legislator to be suffering from dengue, the doctors referred him to the national capital for better treatment.

Nishad’s son Ajay told The Telegraph: “My father is a heart patient. In September, he complained of heart problems and his old pacemaker was also replaced.” The legislator was taken to Patna around 11.30am from where he left for New Delhi in the late evening.

Suspected cases of dengue have been pouring in from Saraiya, Paroo, Bochahan and Mushahri blocks at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) and private hospitals in Muzaffarpur since October 3. Eleven of 13 dengue patients admitted at SKMCH have been discharged after necessary treatment, said deputy superintendent Dr Sunil Shahi. Around 23 suspected cases of dengue have also reported at the private hospitals in the past week.

Chief medical officer-cum-civil surgeon Gyan Bhushan said primary health centres and private nursing homes in the district have been alerted to refer suspected cases of dengue to SKMCH and other government hospitals. He added that blood samples of persons suspected to be suffering from dengue would be sent to the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, New Delhi.
