GAUTAM SARKAR IN CHANDAN (BANKA) Published 26.02.13, 12:00 AM

Banka administration on Monday decided to focus on the neglected parts of the district, mostly in Badua Tapu (island), a day after Badua Vikash Sansad passed a bill to strengthen the need of basic infrastructure in the area.

Deepak Anand, the Banka district magistrate, who took notice of the Sunday’s Sansad, said the administration would take up the issues plaguing the area very soon.

“I was not aware of such a Sansad (parliament) in the area. However, I came to know about it and the basic problems of the region from The Telegraph on Monday,” the DM said.

He added: “We have now decided to conduct a survey to identify the problems of the people residing in Badua Tapu.”

Anand said to address the plight of the rural mass, the district administration recently initiated Gram Vikash Shivirs in remote areas.

We have conducted three Shivirs in remote parts of the Naxalite-hit Belhar block. During the camps, we tried to address several issues like drinking water problem. We have installed tubewells and have reopened schools too. We have dealt with cases related to pension and Indira Awaas Yojana at the camps,” he said.

In a daylong session on Sunday, the Sansad — the villagers’ forum for rights — had criticised the apathy of the government in carrying out development works.
