Children wade through a waterlogged street in Patna after rain on Sunday. Patna received 48mm rainfall, the highest this season so far, on Sunday. Station Road, Patel Nagar, Kankerbagh and Patna City were among the areas that were waterlogged, and several motorists and pedestrians were caught unawares. Priyanka Kumari, a 22-year-old college student, was drenched with her friend Neha on SP Verma Road. She said: "We both love rain. We could have taken a rickshaw to save ourselves but we wanted to get drenched." But the rain spelt disaster too. The state disaster management department confirmed 23 deaths owing to lightning strikes across the state, including Patna, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Saran, Buxar, Nalanda and Araria, on Sunday. The department has announced Rs 4 lakh ex gratia for the next of kin of the deceased. Text by Shuchimita Chakraborty, picture by PTI
