Patna: Six government schools of the state capital are set to get a digital makeover.
Under the Centre's smart city programme, smart classrooms would be introduced at Bankipore Girls' High School (near Golghar), Balak Madhya Vidyalaya (Adalatganj), Prathmik Vidyalaya (Lodhipur), Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya (near Golghar), Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya (near Adalatganj) and Miller High School (Beer Chand Patel Marg).
The classrooms will be introduced as part of the area-based development (ABD) plan of the smart city project.
While six smart classrooms would come up at the Bankipore Girl's High School, four would be created at the Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya functioning from the same campus while seven smart classrooms would be created at the Miller High School. Four smart classrooms would be created in the Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya (Adalatganj). Balak Madhya Vidyalaya (Adalatganj) and Prathmik Vidyalaya (Lodhipur) would get four smart classrooms each.
Divisional commissioner Anand Kishor held a meeting with officials of the Spain-based Eptisa Servicios de Ingeniería S.L. (the project management consultant for the smart city project), Patna Municipal Corporation commissioner Anupam Kumar Suman, PMC chief engineer Ashok Kumar, Patna district education officer Jyoti Kumar and other department officials in which various private agencies gave their presentation on the smart classrooms.
"The smart classrooms are supposed to be functional within the next four months. We want to start smart classrooms by November. Only on the basis of success of the smart classrooms created in the first phase, we would start smart classrooms in 50 other government schools in the city," said Kishor.
He added: "There would be digital and virtual classrooms both as part of the smart classrooms. The smart classrooms would be equipped with CPU, document cameras/visualisers, interactive white board, interactive projector, multimedia pens, wireless microphone, speakers, printers and scanners. The smart classrooms would be held in both Hindi and English. There would be a digital screen on which students would be taught various subjects. The visuals and animations which would be shown to students during class would help to clear their concepts. This would instil creativity and boost their interest level in studies. The classes would be recorded so that students can study with the help of recording even in their absence. Various practical classes would also be screened."
Agencies which showed their presentation on smart classrooms in Monday's meeting included Smartclass Educational Services Pvt Ltd and IL&FS Education & Technology Services Limited.
BSNL, Extramarks Education India Pvt Ltd, Agmatel India Pvt Ltd, DS Digital Pvt Ltd and Embee Software Pvt Ltd would show their presentation in a meeting scheduled on Tuesday.
