Gaya, Aug. 7: Six persons, including three policemen, were injured in stone-pelting in protest against the district administration’s attempt to demolish illegal portions of some buildings.

A team of the district administration was supposed to demolish the illegally constructed portions of four hotels, including Prince, Embassy, Jeewak and Tokyo Vihar, Holy Land monastery and an under-construction meditation centre-cum-guest house in Bodhgaya. A mob started pelting stones at the officials when they were moving towards hotel Embassy after bringing down a part of the railing on the terrace of hotel Prince.

The situation was brought under control within an hour. The owners of the constructions under scanner later agreed to get the illegally constructed portions demolished on their own. The Bodhgaya Nagar Panchayat has identified 150 structures that either do not have approved construction plan map or have been built beyond the approved plan.

On the direction of the state urban development department, Magadh division commissioner Vivek Kumar Singh has asked the Bodhgaya Nagar Panchayat executive officer Sushil Kumar Mishra to initiate action against the illegal constructions.

On Wednesday, the Nagar Panchayat had issued a notice to such illegal constructions to get the illegally constructed portions demolished. But the owners of such premises did not adhere to the order, prompting today’s demolition drive.

In a master plan, height of structures in Bodhgaya has been restricted to 3.3m after the place was included as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2002.
